Lack of training leads to pierced artery

We recently took instructions from a shop fitter who has suffered injury because he was not properly trained to remove glass, nor was he given proper protective equipment.

His job involved removing a pane of glass and in doing so the glass broke and injured his arm piercing his artery. Fortunately prompt first aid at the scene kept him alive.

As a result we were able to seek compensation against his employer for negligence in training and for the injuries sustained.

If you are being asked to handle glass or working up ladders as a part of your employment then special rules apply, which employers must adhere to. Proper protective equipment and proper training should be provided at all times.
